FollowingtheoriginalArchosGamePadwefirstFollowing the original Archos GamePad we first got our hands on back at CES in January, specifications on the Archos GamePad 2 were revealed in a brief product posting on the retailer website HKTDC. Though the product has since been pulled, the details remain showing an increase in memory and a more powerful quad-core processor.
The original Archos GamePad features a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and a quad-core GPU, as well as a 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution display and 1GB of RAM. Though the screen size has remained the same in the next iteration of the device, the resolution has been boosted to 1280 x 800 with an IPS display. The screen isn’t the only hardware component that has been boosted, however.
The processor has seen an increase as well, moving up to a 1.6GHz quad-core offering instead of the current dual-core hardware. The memory has been doubled from a single gigabyte to 2GB, and the internal storage options are 8GB and 16GB. For those who need more space, there is also a microSD card expansion slot to increase storage.
The controls don’t appear to have changed from one generation to the next, offering a D-pad and such, though the design surrounding them have been altered. The price of the tablet hasn’t been made available yet, but the previous generation was placed at $169.99 USD, and as such it is reasonable to think the next generation offering could come in around the $200 USD range.
