LG will soon be launching its first-ever smartphone designed to run Firefox OS soon, doing so in Brazil in partnership with the local carrier Telefonica. The LG Fireweb, not surprisingly, is a lower-end handset meant for those in need of an entry-level device, putting it on par with many ZTE and Huawei handsets, for example.

As far as hardware specifications go, the LG Fireweb features a modest 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, something that is on the very low end of the smartphone spectrum. The processor is on par with this level, offering a speed of 1GHz and a lower-than-typical internal storage space of only 2GB, meaning users won’t be loading many apps onto the handset.

Rounding it out is a 5-megapixel camera on the back of the handset. The boasting point, obviously, is that it runs Mozilla’s Firefox OS, bringing with it support for running HTML5 and similar applications. With the smartphone comes a Web browser, calendar, clock, and maps app, as well as the Firefox Marketplace for downloading other mobile applications.

Those in the region can grab the phone now, and with it comes a price tag that is hefty for the hardware that is onboard: $207 USD / $449 BRL unsubsidized, and $59 USD / $129 BRL for subsidized subscribers.
