Microsoft has extended its Games with Gold program, making the Xbox Live Gold bonus an ongoing perk for members. Launched earlier this year, at E3 2013, with the promise that it would run until the end of 2013, Games with Gold gives Xbox 360 owners two free games each month to download. Now, Microsoft says, it’ll be extending Games with Gold indefinitely.

The scheme has apparently been something of a success for Microsoft, with over 120m hours of gameplay of freely-downloaded titles to-date. Previous titles to be included under the scheme have included Rainbow Six: Vegas, Assassin’s Creed 2, and Fable 3.

Currently, Halo 3 is available, and will be until the end of October.

What’s not clear at this stage is whether Games with Gold will be carried over to the Xbox One. Microsoft’s next-generation console will go on sale from November 22, though while Xbox Live membership will be supported on the updated machine, so far there’s no sign of any freebies.

However, some of the top-tier titles expected to launch alongside the Xbox One will in fact be missing in action until 2014. Watchdogs was to be a launch-day title, but Ubisoft confirmed earlier this week that it would be delayed until early in the new year, along with The Crew.

It’s not only the Xbox One that is experiencing issues with over-ambitious release schedules. Earlier today Sony and Evolution Studios confirmed that PS4 title DRIVECLUB would be delayed until the new year as well.
